In Nursery during outdoor Personal Development lessons the children have been thinking about how to look after themselves, and how to look after the environment. As part of this the Chipmunks made their own healthy snacks and teddy bear faces using a range of healthy foods.
The children also looked after their environment by working in groups to tidy areas of the classroom and made bird feeders which were put into the outdoor learning area for the birds to enjoy.
As the penultimate half term draws to a close I am always hugely impressed by the continuing development of our children in reception. It is hard to believe that they are nearly through their first year of school. Children in both Monkeys and Lions class have continued to work on their pencil grip and letter formation. Lions and Monkeys classes now have handwriting books where they practise their letter formation in preparation for year 1. In Outdoor learning children have worked as a team in their ‘bug groups’ to build a structure that was strong, stable, tall and that would not topple over using plant pots. In the ‘creative’ area children were exploring symmetrical patterns on butterfly templates.
It is truly a marvellous learning experience in EYFS and the ‘learning through play’ helps set the children up for a successful transition into Year 1. A huge well done to the children in Reception and EYFS.
