Social, Emotional and Mental Health

This area focuses on how your child is able to manage and regulate their emotions as well as their general wellbeing

Social and emotional challenges can show in lots of different ways and may often change over time – such as a child becoming anxious, withdrawn or isolated, displaying challenging behaviour (either in school or at home) or showing difficulty with regulating their emotions.

This area of need may include:

  • social anxiety, phobias or reluctance to attend school
  • mental health difficulties such as anxiety or depression
  • attention deficit hyperactive disorder (ADHD)
  • self-esteem and confidence issues
  • if they have tantrums or meltdowns or times when they seem to ‘momentarily lose control’

In some cases, it might be possible to identify triggers for these reactions and children may be able to clearly explain how they are feeling.  In others it may appear completely unexplainable in the moment.  Every child is different and will experience situations differently.
