PE Curriculum Statement of Intent

At Raglan Primary School, we aim to inspire and challenge all children and for each child to fulfil their potential in PE. We want the children’s experience in PE to be positive and motivating. We strive to deliver a challenging, engaging, fun and varied curriculum that allows children to succeed and excel in a range of physical activities and experience competitive sport. We aim to develop their knowledge of different sports, rules and tactics while simultaneously developing personal character and sportsmanship.

At Raglan, we promote health, wellbeing, fitness and a lifelong love of activity.

Implementation

PE is delivered across 2 lessons a week, one led by the teacher focussing on dance, gymnastics and movement and one with our qualified PE coach who delivers team games and athletics. This way, we are able to cover a number of fundamental skills like running, jumping, throwing, rhythm and teamwork. Additionally, we have specialised coaches to teach hockey sessions for Year 2-6. At Raglan, Year 4 learn to swim at the local leisure centre and we offer further sessions to those who need it.

There are many additional extra-curricular activities for children including football, tennis and gymnastics. We also participate in the Crystal Palace Cross country event and competitive sporting fixtures.
